On a warm summer evening in June, Whitwell Brass Band and Ryton Chorale came together for a special joint concert at the historic Worksop Priory. The event brought together two of North Nottinghamshire’s most respected musical groups in a celebration of choral and brass music, set against the stunning backdrop of the medieval priory.
The programme featured a rich mix of styles, from Ryton Chorale’s vibrant performance of Bob Chilcott’s A Little Jazz Mass to Whitwell Brass Band’s powerful brass arrangement of Bach’s Toccata in D Minor. The highlight of the evening was a joint performance of Anthem for Britain, an original composition by Rueben Apostel, a member of Ryton Chorale. This moving piece brought a patriotic and emotional close to the evening, showcasing the creative synergy between the two ensembles.
The concert was warmly received by the audience, who responded with enthusiastic applause and appreciation. It was a night that celebrated not only musical excellence but also the spirit of collaboration and community
